Learn SALAH (Prayer)
Your Daily Connection With Allah
Salah (prayer) is the heart of Islam.
It is your direct, personal connection with Allah — a moment of peace, reflection, and renewal, five times every day.
🕌 Importance of Salah
-
Spiritual Connection: Strengthens the bond with Allah.
-
Discipline: Teaches punctuality and consistency.
-
Purification: Cleanses the soul from sins.
-
Community: Builds unity when performed in congregation.
🤍 What Is Salah?
Salah is the formal prayer Muslims perform five times daily at prescribed times.
It is:
-
A pillar of Islam
-
A source of peace and discipline
-
A reminder of purpose throughout the day
Salah is not complicated — it is sincere, structured, and accessible to everyone.
🕰 The Five Daily Prayers
Muslims pray at these times each day:
-
Fajr – Before sunrise
-
Dhuhr – After midday
-
Asr – Late afternoon
-
Maghrib – Just after sunset
-
Isha – Night
Each prayer helps anchor your day around remembrance of Allah.
📖 Prerequisites Before Salah
-
Purity (Taharah): Perform ablution (Wudu) or Ghusl if required.
- Clean Place: Ensure the prayer area is clean.
- Proper Clothing: Modest attire covering the body.
- Intention (Niyyah): Make a sincere intention to pray.
🚿 Step 1: Preparing for Salah (Wudu)
Before praying, Muslims perform wudu (ablution) — a physical and spiritual cleansing.
How to Make Wudu:
-
Make intention (in your heart)
- Wash hands
- Rinse mouth & nose
- Wash face
- Wash arms to elbows
- Wipe head
- Wash feet to ankles
Wudu symbolises purification and readiness to stand before Allah.
(each step includes a prayer, not mentioned above)
🧭 Step 2: Facing the Qiblah & Intention
-
Face the Qiblah (direction of the Ka’bah in Makkah)
-
Make your intention silently in your heart
-
Raise your hands and say Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
Your salah begins.
🧎 Step 3: How to Perform Salah
Each unit of prayer (rak‘ah) includes:
- Standing (Qiyam) – Recite Surah Al-Fatiha
- Bowing (Ruku‘) – Glorify Allah
- Standing briefly
- Prostration (Sujood) – Closest moment to Allah
- Sitting
- Second Sujood
This cycle is repeated based on the prayer.
🧭 Detailed Steps of Salah
1. Takbir (Opening)
-
Raise both hands and say: Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest).
2. Qiyam (Standing)
-
Recite Surah Al-Fatiha followed by another Surah or verses from the Qur’an.
3. Ruku (Bowing)
-
Bend at the waist, keeping the back straight, and say: Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem (Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great).
4. Qiyam After Ruku
-
Stand upright and say: Sami’ Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him).
5. Sujood (Prostration)
-
Place forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes on the ground, saying: Subhana Rabbiyal A’la (Glory is to my Lord, the Most High).
6. Jalsa (Sitting)
-
Sit between two prostrations and say: Rabbighfir li (My Lord, forgive me).
7. Second Sujood
-
Repeat the prostration.
8. Tashahdud (Testimony)
-
Sit and recite the testimony of faith.
9. Salam (Ending)
-
Turn the head to the right and left, saying: Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah (Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you).
(the above steps, includes the minimum recitation – more detailed recitations are adviced)
🌱 Developing Focus (Khushu’) in Salah
Khushu’ means humble focus and presence in prayer.
To improve:
-
Pray slowly
-
Understand what you recite
-
Avoid rushing
-
Pray in a quiet place
-
Remember you are standing before Allah
Khushu’ grows with time and consistency.
